Situated high up on the eastern escarpment, on the Steenkampsberg mountain range in the Highlands Meander region of Mpumalanga, South Africa is, Dullstroom - Emnotweni.

Geography and History

Dullstroom is not only one of the highest situated towns in South Africa, it is also one of the coldest. Emnotweni, meaning ‘Place of Prosperity’, was added to the name recently.

With its crisp mountain air and scenic beauty, Dullstroom - Emnotweni lends itself perfectly to trout fishing. This area has many of the finest trout fishing rivers. Most dams are stocked with rainbow and/or brown trout, and natural breeding occurs in many of the area’s rivers.

There are plenty of activities to keep the visitors to this town busy. One could explore Dullstroom - Emnotweni on foot by taking scenic hikes, or doing horse riding trails. Another idea would be to pack a delicious picnic’s to eat beside the breathtaking waterfalls.

There is said to be over 200 different species of wild flowers naturally growing in this area. Some tree-ferns would be over 100 years old!

Dullstroom - Emnotweni Bird of Prey and Rehabilitation Centre, located just outside the town, hold two presentations daily where they fly eagles, owls, falcons, hawks etc. It is fun for all the family and a great chance for close up photos of all the birds.
